Creating Summer Spaces for Kids at Home

Home Sweet Home

This summer, since we’re spending much more time at home than normal and Elle isn’t going to camp, I’ve been working on creating some outdoor spaces for her. I wanted to give Elle several different areas to make it feel like she was visiting different places, even though they’re all in the yard.

Luckily, my friends at Serena & Lily just launched the cutest kids outdoor furniture, which I quickly scooped up as I knew it would be a perfect for the look I was going for, not to mention the quality is unbeatable. We’ve had the pieces in our yard in sun and rain and they continue to look perfect, without needing covers (which is hugely helpful since I’m sure I would forget to cover them half the time).

Making Spaces to Make Memories

I started with a play house, something I would have loved as a child (blog post on our little house to come!). Elle loves imaginary play, so this space has proven to be a hit. It’s been everything from a pet shop and an ice cream stand to a restaurant.  The indoor/outdoor chairs nicely accent the window — one of the most used corners of the house. While the house comes with a bench, it’s nice to keep that bench inside for any adults who get pulled into the game (and since we aren’t having friends over, I appreciate the place to sit inside). The chairs are a beautiful pale blue (I am jealous of Elle’s set up and wish I had the same in adult size).

The table acts as a part of the restaurant game too. We also have set the table for snack time and art time! It’s the perfect height for Elle and truly looks darling with the chairs.

We also are using this umbrella which isn’t technically part of the kids line but coordinates perfectly. How cute did it look when we played flower shop? It’s been a great purchase as we took it to the beach as well. Beyond these spaces, Elle has a little kiddie pool station and a chalk area for hopscotch. We’re making the most of this time at home and will continue to share ideas both here and on Instagram!

Be sure to check Serena & Lily’s site as they have new arrivals often…from gingham outdoor pillows and this darling bench to a new pitcher and glasses, I’ve ordered a few things to start updating some grown up spaces (why should Elle have all the fun?!).
