The Wizarding World of Elle Hertz

A Harry Potter Birthday…But Make it Pretty

My mini is officially eight now and to say it’s bittersweet would be an understatement. Watching Elle grow into the most darling little girl has been one of the greatest joys of my life and I will never stop doing everything I can to make her birthdays feel special. She is currently obsessed with Harry Potter so it was a no-brainer for me to take The Wizarding World and put a soft, girly spin on it. With the help of Anne from Clafoutis Events, I think it was truly magical (Hermione would approve). I was in love with the whimsical decor, from the London-esque pink telephone booth to the Hogwarts letters floating from the ceiling. The kids had so much fun with the “classes,” we were at Hogwarts after all. From potion-making and charm bracelet designing to botanical bookmarks and getting sorted, they were highly entertained. The custom fortune teller, owl adoption table, snake-shaped snacks and of course all of the sweet treats were also a hit. Planning a celebration like this is definitely a labor of love but if you have a vision and can find the team to help bring it together, the smiles at the end of the day are more than worth it. I hope you can draw some inspiration for your next event, whether small or large! Hogwarts “Classes”

Bringing the magical world of Harry Potter to life for Elle’s birthday celebration was an absolute joy! We loved the challenge of reimagining the classic Harry Potter theme with a more feminine color palette and aesthetic, and transforming Hogwarts into a whimsical wonderland. Drawing inspiration from the enchanting classrooms of Hogwarts, we crafted immersive experiences to delight the guests. For our potions class, we created a miniature spell book with instructions to create bubbling, fizzing concoctions that changed colors before guests’ eyes and came to life!  We renamed each real world ingredient to add to the magic and even recreated the famous Felix Felicis potion with edible ingredients for the guests to consume for a little extra luck. Our Defense Against the Dark Arts class sparked creativity as each guest was invited to design their own patronus charm bracelet for protection. To connect with Emily’s vintage feminine aesthetic, we used a beautiful ribbon of Liberty of London fabric that we shredded as the base and hand-selected charms for decorating. The Herbology classroom came alive with an activation for guests to create their own dried flower bookmarks, a nod to the greenery of the Hogwarts’ grounds. We love adding special touches like beautiful tassels and ribbon to activities like this – everything is better with a bow! Finally, inspired by the Care of Magical Creatures class, we designed Elle’s Owlery where the cutest plush owls were ready to be adopted and loved for years to come, adding an extra touch of whimsy to an already enchanting affair. From start to finish, it was a birthday celebration filled with spells, girly charm, and a sprinkle of vintage magic!
