Summer to Fall: What to Wear When the Weather Can’t Decide

Maybe it’s just me, but the transition from summer to fall always seems like the hardest to dress for. Mornings and evenings can be chilly, sometimes downright cold, while midday often feels like the peak of summer, especially here in Atlanta. Basically, it’s possible to experience all four seasons in a single day.

With that in mind, I always lean into layers. Not only are they essential for fall, but they’re also a chic way to stay prepared. You can start the day bundled up and peel back pieces as the temperature rises. And if you’re a three-outfits-a-day type of girl (guilty!), one of my favorite tricks is to wear traditionally summer silhouettes – like shorts or flowy dresses – and bring autumn into the mix through color, texture, and accessories.

Either way, the pieces below are made to take you seamlessly from one season to the next.

This dress is chocolate brown, seemingly my favorite color this season. I layered a pale pink cardigan on top since it was chilly in the morning!

When the weather really can’t decide, these rain boots and this jacket have been the best.

An example of wearing a summer piece in a fall fabric. This sweater tank was perfect for this day.

Styled a favorite pink barn jacket of the season for my morning errands and workout class.

A longline jacket with shorts is always a chic look for a cool, but not cold, day.
