Rule No. 2
The Higher the Heel, the Closer to God
I have been sharing on Born on Fifth for a decade and have learned a lot along the way. Every week, I will share what a decade of getting dressed has taught me and hope it informs your style the way it has informed mine. If you missed it, read Rule No. 1: More Fabric Is More Flattering.
Rule No. 2: the higher the heel, the closer to God. I have never found a flat that did for an outfit what a heel does, and ten years of Born on Fifth has only confirmed it. The right heel is everything, and here are five of my favorites.

Why the Heel?
A heel does three things no flat does. It finishes the leg, it lifts the posture, and it literally elevates the look. Beyond height alone, each heel below earned its place because I can walk in it with ease. You get what you pay for with heels, in my opinion, and it’s a great place to invest.
Five of My Favorites

The mule that goes with everything, which is why it leads. A backless silhouette keeps the leg long, and the croc finish makes it read considered rather than casual.

Proof that a white shoe can be practical. The bouclé softens it, the block of the pump makes it walkable, and white against a blush dress is the lightest way to finish a look.

The romantic one. Ribbon lacing borrows from ballet, and the red sole is the quiet signature underneath. This is the heel for the room you want to be remembered in.

The one I reach for without thinking. A black pointed pump is the most reliable sentence in a wardrobe: it sharpens everything it touches and never argues with the dress.

The finale pair. A platform carries height without punishing the foot, which is why it closes the story: the highest heel, worn the easiest.
How to Choose a Heel
- Walkable first. If you cannot walk in it, it is not the right heel, whatever the height.
- The heel finishes the look. Choose the shoe after the dress, not before it.
- One pair that goes with everything beats five pairs that go with one thing.
- Height is a tool, not a dare. Platforms carry height kindly; a stiletto sharpens. Know which job you are hiring for.

The linkable pairs from all five looks are gathered in The Edit on LTK. Some pairs are past season and cannot be linked, and that is rather the point of keeping good things. Where a pair is no longer available, I have included the closest equivalent I would buy today. Comment HEELS on the Instagram reel and I will send the edit directly.
Answering Your Questions
What kind of heel can you wear daily?
A mule or a block heel you can walk in is an everyday shoe; a stiletto you cannot is an occasion shoe. Choose accordingly.
What heel height is actually walkable?
It depends on the construction more than the number of inches. A platform carries height kindly, a block heel steadies it, and a pointed stiletto asks the most of the foot. Fit and balance matter more than inches.
Which heel goes with everything?
A mule in a neutral finish. Backless, simple, and long in the leg, it is the pair that never argues with the dress. Or your classic black, pointed-toe pump.
How do you style platform heels without them looking heavy?
Keep the rest of the silhouette long and simple. A platform needs a clean line above it, not competing detail.
