The State of Estate Sales
Do you like to shop Estate Sales? I must admit, when I drive by the signs I’m always curious about what treasures might be in the house, awaiting discovery. Sometimes all it takes is a fresh pair of eyes for something once forgotten or cast away to be given new life. As I continue to refine and understand my home decor and entertaining style, the prospect of finding a vintage score is all the more alluring. But, I always keep driving, wistful about what could have been.
Introducing Everything But The House
Thanks to Everything But The House, now my thrive to thrift can now be fulfilled, all from the comfort of the ghost chair from where I sit. I was invited to a lovely dinner celebrating the launch of Everything But The House in Atlanta and learned about the premise behind the site from founders Jacquie Denny and Brian Graves. Essentially the EBTH team, after being contacted by an individual or family looking to conduct an estate sale, visits the home, prices and photographs all of the items and puts them on the site, where they are available for seven days. Bidding for each item starts at $1 (read: vintage finds minus the mark up) and that’s where the fun begins.
As I am sitting to write this, I have my eye on 9 items, three of which are set to expire at around 8:00 tonight. Having loved and lost before, I won’t let myself get too attached to any of these items since I’ll be at a meeting when the bidding wars begin (and I think having my phone out to try and procure a set of porcelain pitchers would be frowned upon).
What to Expect
The site is clear and easy to navigate, shipping costs can be determined ahead of time by entering your zip code and there are countless rabbit holes you can go down (I assure you!). From editor’s picks to the various on-trend boutiques that curate the items by theme, there’s no wrong way to approach EBTH. It will come as a surprise to no one that some of my favorite items include this pitcher, this set of glassware, this teacup and saucer and, thanks to the beta “just for you” section, this punch set.
Celebrating EBTH x Atlanta
EBTH not only knows vintage, but they are great at throwing parties too, as evidenced by the gorgeous set up. Brand Advisor Andrea Stanford (who lives in LA and I secretly want to be best friends with) gave all the guests a taste of what to expect on the site by greeting us with a room full of vintage treasures that we got to open, love and potentially (heartbreakingly) lose, white elephant style. I ended up with a pretty glass dish shaped like an apple (or is it a peach?!), which seems perfect given my New York roots and Georgia address. I also walked away with the stunning (!!!) flowers pictured below.
